Playing roulette online simply requires an understanding of the same rules that are used for roulette in brick and mortar casinos. Let’s take a brief look at the rules of how to play roulette, so that you’ll be prepared for the moment you decide to join us at the table. Please note that our initial explanation of how to play roulette follows the rules of classic roulette. We’ll take a look at the rules for other roulette tables shortly afterwards.
Online roulette is played by spinning a ball on the rotating roulette wheel. On this wheel are 36 numbered sections. Sections numbered 1-36 are split evenly between red and black, while section 0 is green. Before each spin of the wheel, players can lay down chips on a grid which has sections corresponding to each section of the wheel, in order to bet where they think the ball will land.
Outside bets include betting on the colour the ball will land on, whether the ball will land on an odd or even number, and whether the ball will land on numbers either 1-18 (known as a “low bet” or 19-36 (“known as a high bet). Two other types of “outside” bets include betting on numbers 1-12 (first dozen) numbers 13-24 (middle dozen) or numbers 25-36 (last dozen).
The key difference between American roulette and European roulette is that the American version features two “0” sections while the European roulette wheel features just one.
How To Play European Roulette Online
While playing European online roulette, you’ll be required to place your bet/bets in between each spin of the wheel (the croupier will announce when there is no time left to place a bet just before each turn). There are two types of main bets you can make, which are divided into “inside” or “outside” bets.
Inside bets are slightly riskier, as they are less likely to occur than outside bets. There are seven common categories of inside roulette bets:
- A straight bet requires you to bet on the specific number the ball will land on
- A split bet requires you to bet on the ball landing on one of two different numbers
- A street bet requires you to bet on a set of three consecutive numbers
- A corner bet requires you to bet on four numbers that are grouped together on the corresponding grid
- A line bet requires you to bet on one of two sets of three numbers landing
How To Play American Roulette Online
The rules for American roulette are extremely similar to European roulette. The same two types of bets occur (inside and outside bets), with the same sub-types available for each bet. The difference is in the roulette wheel itself. An American roulette wheel contains a “double zero” pocket i.e. there are two zeros on the American wheel, whereas the European rule features a single zero.
Accordingly, the odds in American roulette are slightly less favourable than European roulette, because there is one more possible outcome that can occur.
Of course, you can still play American roulette online just as easily at Spin Casino as you can European Roulette. Simply select “Roulette” from the main games menu then choose which version you would prefer to play. And if you prefer a faster version of the game, you can always take a try on our Roulette Lightning wheel.
How To Win At Roulette
Online roulette should always be played for fun. And while there is no way of guaranteeing a win, there are some strategies employed by roulette enthusiasts in order to enhance their playing experience. Indeed, the unpredictable nature of roulette is what makes the game so exciting for Casino players around the world.
And while online roulette players may have their own individual approaches to playing, there are several well-established strategies that have proved popular for many years. These include the Martingale System, the Reverse Martingale System, and the Fibonacci sequence. In the next section, we’ll take you through how each of these roulette strategies work.
These strategies can be used to play European roulette, American roulette and Lightning roulette.
Online Roulette Strategies
The aforementioned Martingale system, reverse Martingale system and Fibonacci sequence are the three primary strategies used to play roulette, across its variations. The Labouchere system, Andrucci system and D’aembert systems (and their corresponding reverse systems) are also employed by players in roulette casinos online and offline, but many players prefer to start off using Martingale and Fibonacci.
The Martingale system is extremely beginner friendly, and its simplicity is reflected in the fact it is used across many other casino games, from slot machines to Baccarat. The Martingale system is based on the principle that every time a player loses a bet, they double their stake on the next go. When it comes to applying the Martingale system to roulette, experts advise that players only bet on outcomes with a 50/50 outcome, such as betting on the ball to land on red or black or whether it will end up on an odd or even number. Remember, the Martingale system does not guarantee you will make a profit when playing roulette.
The reverse Martingale system, as you may have anticipated, involves employing the exact opposite principle to the Martingale system. Where the Martingale system suggests doubling your stake following a loss, the reverse Martingale system instructs players to double their stake after every win. When using the reverse Martingale, players are advised to start betting with a minimum amount, and stick to this amount until a win occurs, whereupon you double your stake. Once a loss happens, the players immediately reverts back to their minimum stake and starts the process again.
The Fibonacci system is adopted from the Fibonacci sequence, whereby a number equals the sum of the previous two numbers in the string. For example:
1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21
In roulette, the Fibonacci system is applied to even money bets (betting on the red/black, odd/even 0-18/19-36), by betting the corresponding number on each turn I.e., on your first bet, you bet one unit, on the second turn, one unit, on the third turn, three units, on the fourth turns 5 units and so on.
